  • NASDDDS Webinar: Supporting Individuals with I/DD and Co-Occurring Mental Health Needs

    Yesterday, September 11, 2014, NCI staff participated in a NASDDDS Webinar on supporting individuals with ID/DD and co-occurring mental health needs. NCI staff presented on what NCI data show about individuals who need behavior supports. Then Julie Gentile, Professor of Psychiatry, Wright State University School of Medicine, presented on the biological factors in behavioral, social, and mental health supports and discussed the importance of trauma informed care. Julie also highlighted promising practices in the use of tele-psychiatry.

  • Behavior Data Brief Re-issue

    The NCI Data Brief entitled "What Do NCI Data Reveal About Individuals With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Who Need Behavior Support," originally released in May, 2014, has been re-released with a new section on Emerging Practices. This section, located at the end of the data brief, details some innovative work being done in NM, OH and MA on supporting individuals with challenging behaviors. Take a look!   • APSE Conference Presentation, Long Beach, CA

    On July 1, 2014, NCI staff members Josh Engler and Dorothy Hiersteiner, along with John Butterworth from the Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) at UMass Boston, presented at the Association of People Supporting EmploymentFirst (APSE) Conference in Long Beach, CA. The presentation discussed what NCI data show about employment, and led to a lively question and answer session about the NCI's potential as a data source for information on employment of individuals with ID/DD.
